Who it is for

Kemi gives her twelve year old Tobi a Smart Wallet. Chore Allowance grants a weekly spend permission of fifteen dollars, blocks the categories she picks, and adds a bonus when Kemi ticks a chore as done. Tobi learns real money with real limits, and nobody holds his keys.

What is new

Kids allowance apps exist off chain (Mydoh, FinFlo Junior) and spend permissions exist on Base, but no allowance app using spend permissions was found.

The pitch, ready

A weekly allowance on Base where spend permissions hold the house rules, chores unlock top ups, and the child holds his own keys.

Problem: Parents want kids to learn money with real money, but cash vanishes, kids card apps are tied to one bank or country, and a crypto wallet with no limits is not an option. Most parents end up lecturing or holding the child's password.

Solution: One spend permission caps the week onchain. The app checks approved shops, blocks and a single buy limit before paying, explains every refusal, and turns ticked chores into bonuses under a second small permission.

Why now: Smart Wallets with passkeys and spend permissions on Base make a capped, non custodial allowance possible for the first time, with gas sponsored for about a cent.

Market: Families with children 8 to 16 who already give pocket money, and schools that teach money lessons. Off chain allowance apps prove parents pay for this.

The ask: Pilot with 50 families and two schools in Ibadan, then shops near schools.

Funding is never guaranteed. Check each program's rules.

BLUEPRINT

Why it matters and how it really works

The need

Parents want kids to learn money by handling real money, but cash vanishes, card apps for kids are often tied to one bank or country, and handing a child a crypto wallet with no limits is not an option. Most parents end up either lecturing or holding the child's password.

What exists and what is new

Kids allowance apps exist off chain, for example Mydoh and FinFlo Junior, and Base documents spend permissions for Smart Wallets. Research found no allowance app built on spend permissions. The new part is the combination: the weekly cap enforced onchain by a spend permission, the child holding his own passkey wallet, and chores that add top ups. The building blocks are not new.

The data it runs on

The parent's spend permission (amount, period, spender), the child's wallet address, payments made through the app, the parent's approved shop list and blocked categories, chore list and ticks, and the weekly summary. Chore photos and shop lists stay in the app; only payments and the permission are onchain.

1.The mission

Let every child learn real money with real limits, holding their own keys, while parents set the rules once instead of policing every purchase.

2.Why people can't resist it

The Sunday card Spent, saved, refused and one question, opened together each week in ten minutes.

Chores that pay Kids propose chores and parents price them. A tick turns into a top up the same minute.

Savings goal A drawn goal (a bike, a game, a gift) that fills up, with an optional parent match for streaks.

3.How it works for real

Wallets: Parent and child each get a Coinbase Smart Wallet on Base with passkey sign in. No seed phrases, and the parent never holds the child's keys.

Weekly spend permission: The parent signs one spend permission: up to the allowance amount per 7 day period, to the app's spender contract, starting Saturday 8 AM local time. The cap is enforced onchain and can be revoked any time.

Checkout rules: When the child pays, the app checks the approved shop list, blocked categories, single buy limit and time window before moving USDC. These checks run in the app, and the onchain cap is the hard backstop.

Chore bonuses: The parent ticks a chore; the app pulls the bonus under a second, small spend permission so bonuses can never exceed what the parent allowed.

Fiat on and off ramps: Parents fund in USDC via a supported on ramp. Shops either accept USDC on Base or are paid through a merchant link; local shops can be added by the parent.

Notifications and summary: Push or WhatsApp notes for refusals and ask Mum requests, plus a Sunday summary built from the week's payments.

4.Cost per use and pricing

Base transactions typically cost around a cent or less, and Smart Wallet transactions can be sponsored by a paymaster. A busy week with 8 payments and 2 bonuses costs the app roughly 5 to 10 cents in gas. Hosting and notifications run about $15 to $30 a month for a few hundred families. Example: 300 families at 10 transactions a week is about 12,000 transactions a month, roughly $60 to $120 in sponsored gas.

Family Free for one child
Weekly allowance, blocked list, three chores, Sunday card.
Family Plus $3 a month
Up to four kids, unlimited chores, savings goals with parent match, shop approvals by message.
Schools and clubs $1 per student a month
Class money lessons where students run a small allowance with a teacher's rules.

5.Growth loop

Kids show friends their goal and the Sunday card; parents share the refusal moments. Each family can invite another with a prefilled rules template, and local shops ask to join the approved list.

6.Risks and guardrails

Child privacy and law: Children's data is protected by laws such as COPPA and GDPR K. Collect the minimum, parent consent first, no ads, no selling data.

Rules are partly offchain: Shop blocks and per buy limits are enforced by the app, not the chain. A child could move funds another way; the weekly onchain cap limits how much is ever at risk.

Mislabelled shops: Category guesses fail. The app uses a parent approved shop list instead and asks before any new shop.

Key loss: A lost phone means a lost passkey unless recovery is set. Add a recovery passkey or a parent recovery guardian at setup.

Money rules and licensing: Holding or moving funds for others can need licences in some countries. The app is non custodial and never holds the family's money.

7.Build order

  1. Parent and child Smart Wallet onboarding with passkeys
  2. Weekly spend permission with a local time period start
  3. Checkout with approved shops, blocked list and single buy limit
  4. Chore list with parent ticks and bonus top ups
  5. Ask Mum requests and refusal messages
  6. Sunday summary card and savings goal

8.Where this is going

  1. Now
One family in Ibadan: a weekly allowance with real limits and chores that pay.
  2. Next
Shops near schools accept it, and families everywhere share rules templates that fit their culture and currency.
  3. Later
Schools run money lessons on it, and teens graduate to more freedom as their own track record grows.
  4. The big one
A generation that learned money with real practice and fair limits, holding their own keys from day one.

Why own Chore Allowance

Chore Allowance: A weekly allowance on Base where spend permissions do the parenting rules and chores unlock top ups. Using someone else's version means their rules, their brand and their revenue. Owning Chore Allowance means it is deployed under your wallet, carries your name, and every customer, partner and result builds your track record instead of theirs.

What’s stopping you?

“I am not technical.”

Chore Allowance arrives deployed with a guide. Running it is settings and sharing links, not code. If you get stuck, we help you ship it.

“What if nobody uses it?”

Start with ten people you already know. The first move below takes under an hour and tells you fast whether people care.

“I do not have time.”

Each step is sized in minutes. Most owners spend an hour a week, and the app does the repetitive part.

“Will it make me money?”

Nothing is guaranteed. The playbook gives you a clear path and honest numbers, and you decide how far to take it.
