Aptos Code Collision is the flagship global Move hackathon run by the Aptos Foundation, built to pull developers into the Aptos Layer 1 across DeFi, payments, gaming, AI, and social. The flagship 2024 edition put more than $500,000 in prizes on the table across five tracks and eight special bounties, and the top five teams in each track became eligible for Aptos Foundation grants ranging from $5,000 to $35,000. If you want to become a Move developer that the Aptos ecosystem actually recognizes, this is one of the clearest on-ramps.

What Code Collision Is and Who Runs It

Code Collision is organized by the Aptos Foundation, the entity stewarding the Aptos blockchain, a Move-based Layer 1 spun out of Meta's Diem work. It runs as a global hybrid hackathon: developers join virtually and in person through local Code Jams and Code Stations to build, learn, and ship products. The 2024 edition was hosted on DoraHacks and drew 2,658 developers who submitted 658 projects worldwide.

The event is partner-heavy, which matters for a builder. The 2024 run was powered by Google Cloud, OKX Wallet, Econia Labs, and Foresight Ventures, among others. Those are the same firms writing checks and shortlisting engineers, so the judging room is not just a scoreboard, it is a recruiting funnel.

Dates and Format

Here is the honest part on timing. The confirmed, well-documented run of Code Collision is the 2024 edition, which registered from July 2, 2024 through October 15, 2024, with project submissions opening August 1 and winners announced around October 17. Aptos has kept a continuous hackathon calendar since, including the Ctrl+MOVE hackathon (roughly August through October 2025) and various regional Move events.

As of this writing, a new Code Collision edition with locked 2026 dates has not been publicly confirmed on the Aptos Foundation or DoraHacks pages. Do not build your plan around a rumored date. Check the official rules page and the DoraHacks listing directly before committing, and treat any date you see quoted elsewhere as unverified until it appears there.

Tracks and Prizes

The 2024 flagship structure is the best guide to what a future edition looks like. Prizes exceeded $500,000, split across five tracks plus eight special bounties from partners. The core build themes mapped to Aptos priorities:

  • DeFi: lending, real-world assets, and on-chain financial services. Winners included eVault, blending DeFi and TradFi for underserved communities.
  • Payments: Aptos has leaned hard into payment rails, separately launching a Payments Grant track offering up to $150,000 in milestone-based funding for payment infrastructure founders.
  • Gaming: on-chain games and provably fair mechanics. Jeton, a decentralized poker platform using zk-SNARKs, was a standout.
  • AI: agents and AI-native apps, such as ChatEDU, an AI education system with on-chain credits.
  • Social and consumer: apps that bring non-crypto users onchain.

Teams could submit to no more than two of the five tracks. The grant layer is the real prize: top-five teams per track became eligible for $5,000 to $35,000 Aptos Foundation grants, which is continuation capital, not just a one-time bounty.

How to Actually Win

Winning a Move hackathon is less about a flashy demo and more about shipping something an ecosystem lead can see themselves funding next quarter.

Build native, not ported

Judges on Aptos reward projects that use Move's strengths, resource-oriented programming and parallel execution, rather than a Solidity idea copy-pasted over. If your contract could run identically on any EVM chain, you have not made the case for Aptos.

Pick a track the ecosystem is actively funding

Payments and DeFi have dedicated grant programs behind them, which signals where the foundation wants builders. A competent payments or RWA project sits closer to real follow-on money than a generic NFT tool.

Ship a working testnet deployment, not a deck

The strongest submissions have a live contract, a real transaction history, and a public repo a judge can read. A deployed, verifiable app beats a polished pitch with no code every time.

Write for the judges and the grant committee

Your submission README should state the problem, the Move-specific design choice, what is live, and what the grant would fund. Make it trivial for a reviewer to move you into the grant shortlist.

Show up in the community early

Code Jams, the Aptos Discord, and forum threads are where teams get feedback and where partners notice people before judging even starts. Being known as a helpful, consistent builder is worth more than a last-minute submission.

Why This Positions You for Future Airdrops

Ecosystems reward the developers who were building before it was obvious, and a hackathon submission is a permanent, timestamped, public proof of that. A deployed Move contract, a merged repo, and a track placement are exactly the kind of onchain and GitHub signals that ecosystem teams look at when they design retroactive rewards. You are not farming a checklist, you are becoming a real Aptos developer with a verifiable history.

That distinction is the whole game. Sybil filters and retro-reward committees increasingly weight genuine contribution, contracts you shipped, tools other builders use, over wallet-hopping activity. Code Collision hands you a credential that reads as legitimate to the exact people who decide where value flows next.

To be direct: none of this guarantees anything. Airdrops are never promised or guaranteed, and no one, including the Aptos Foundation, owes a builder a token for showing up. What a hackathon does give you is real skills, real onchain proof, and a real relationship with an ecosystem, which is the only version of "airdrop farming" that compounds.

Build Toward It With DEPLOYR

DEPLOYR exists to turn scattered hackathon work into the portfolio that makes you look like the developer airdrops actually search for. Use /hackathons to track live Move and Aptos events, /build to ship real onchain projects worth submitting, and /insights to understand what each ecosystem rewards. Then put the proof on your storefront at / so a grant reviewer or ecosystem lead can see exactly what you have shipped.

Start building for Code Collision now, not when the next dates drop. The honest truth stands: airdrops are never guaranteed, but a real Move developer with deployed contracts and a track record is the person every ecosystem wants to keep.

Frequently asked questions

What is Aptos Code Collision?
Code Collision is the Aptos Foundation's flagship global Move hackathon, a hybrid virtual and in-person event where developers build across DeFi, payments, gaming, AI, and social on the Aptos Layer 1.
How much are the prizes and grants?
The 2024 flagship edition offered more than $500,000 across five tracks and eight special bounties. Top-five teams in each track became eligible for Aptos Foundation grants of $5,000 to $35,000.
When does Aptos Code Collision run?
The confirmed 2024 edition registered July 2 to October 15, 2024. A new edition with locked 2026 dates has not been publicly confirmed, so verify on the Aptos Foundation and DoraHacks pages before planning.
What tracks can I build in?
The five core tracks were DeFi, payments, gaming, AI, and social or consumer apps. Teams could submit to no more than two tracks.
How do I actually win Code Collision?
Build Move-native, not a ported EVM idea, ship a live testnet deployment with a public repo, target a track the ecosystem funds like payments or DeFi, and write a submission that makes the grant case clear.
Does building for Code Collision guarantee an airdrop?
No. Airdrops are never guaranteed. A hackathon gives you real Move skills, verifiable onchain proof, and an ecosystem relationship, which is the only durable form of positioning.

Airdrops and prizes are never guaranteed. You are positioning as a builder, not buying a payout.
