Official page →

The Onchain Summer Buildathon is Base's flagship hackathon, run on Devfolio and backed by Coinbase. Recent editions drew more than 7,500 builders and over 1,250 submitted projects, with the prize pool growing to around 250 ETH across eight tracks. It is the single fastest way to get seen as a builder on Base, the most builder-friendly L2 for positioning, because Base actively rewards the developers who ship on it.

What it is

Onchain Summer is a multi-week online buildathon, not a 36-hour sprint, which means you have real time to ship something polished. You register on Devfolio, pick a track, build, and submit before the deadline. Registration includes staking a small amount of ETH (around 0.002) which you get back when you submit, a simple anti-spam mechanism.

Tracks and prizes

The event runs eight tracks, each with its own sponsor and roughly 20 ETH pool split between two and ten winning teams, plus a bonus pool (around 40 ETH in recent editions) for successful product integrations. Confirmed track sponsors have included Stripe (payments), Fleek (discovery), Zora (creator tools), Farcaster (social), and thirdweb (gaming), alongside partners like Shopify, Aerodrome, Nouns and Synthetix. Each track posts a clear prompt, for example "build easy to use consumer payment experiences" or "bring people together with onchain social," so you know exactly what judges want.

How to actually win

Base rewards consumer-grade, actually-usable apps, not clever contracts nobody can operate. Pick one track and build the most polished, genuinely useful thing in it rather than spreading thin. Integrate the track sponsor's product deeply, since the bonus pool and the sponsor's own judging both reward real integrations. Make it feel like a product: a clean landing page, a working demo anyone can click, and an Open Graph card so it spreads. And use Base builder codes so the activity your app generates is attributed to you onchain, which is both good for Builder Rewards and a strong signal to judges that you understand the ecosystem.

Why building here positions you

Base is where attribution is easiest and the ecosystem most openly rewards builders. A finished Onchain Summer project is a deployed app on your own wallet with your builder code, generating real, tagged activity. That is exactly the footprint that Base Builder Rewards and future ecosystem programs look at, and it is the opposite of farming. Even if you do not place, you keep a working consumer app and a public submission that proves you shipped.

Ship it with DEPLOYR

Several DEPLOYR templates map directly onto Onchain Summer tracks: our USDC subscription and tip-jar apps fit payments and creators, and our proof and reputation apps fit social and community. We hand you a working, deployed base to extend toward a track, with the builder-code wiring already in place, so you spend the buildathon polishing a product instead of scaffolding one. Register at the official Onchain Summer Buildathon on Devfolio, then build to win.

Enter it with a team that ships

DEPLOYR gets you from idea to a deployed, working onchain app, then hands you the positioning to be the developer this ecosystem's airdrops look at. Tell us which track you want and we build it with you.
